Abstract

It is our purpose to analyze the representations of childhood and adolescence in two narrative texts of the Portuguese writer José Marmelo e Silva. The theme of childhood and adolescence is very relevant in the context of the Portuguese literature in the XXth century, allowing the reflection on the social and political context, but also on the economic and also the educational, of young people growth. In the short story "Narrativa Bárbara" and in the novel Adolescente Agrilhoado the process of growth and of the affirmation of a personal identity is literary recreated in adverse and hostile environments.
