Abstract

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the degree in Education Sciences at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), the oldest members of the school have been asked to recall the memory of that long journey we have traveled together. That is what I have tried to do in this retrospective narrative that mixes the personal and the academic point of view. Such a long period of time is never free of light and shadow. It would have been nice to stick to the light, but for an academic person that is not usually an option. In short,  the text is organized in three parts: the first, more personal, tries to contextualize my story in what was my own life in the 46 years of teaching in Santiago de Compostela; a second part will focus on the institutional scenario in which the Education Sciences have been developing during all this time; in the third part I will focus on what has been my area of knowledge, Didactics, and the way in which it has been growing and stumbling during this long journey. I will conclude by asking myself the question that as a recent retiree I have not been able to avoid: and you, teacher, have you been happy during all this time?
