Update of the journal in Latindex and news in sections

2023-11-20

Elos. Revista de Literatura Infantil e Xuvenil has been evaluated again by Latindex, so that it now has 36 of the 38 characteristics through which the quality of the publications in the catalogue is assessed (until now it had 29 of the 38 characteristics). We would like to thank all the people who collaborate and work to ensure that the journal continues to grow.

We would also like to take this opportunity to inform you of the new features in the magazine's sections. The "Notes" section has been eliminated and the "Articles" section becomes two different sections: "Miscellaneous" and "Monographic Section". Thus:

- Miscellaneous welcomes original research works on Children's and Young Adult Literature, focusing on Historiography, Literary Theory, analysis of literary works, Translation, Literary Education and any related aspect.

- Monographic Section, with the same structure and formal aspects that apply to the "Miscellaneous" articles, but which respond to a specific theme that will be announced together with the respective call for papers.

In any case, the indications available in the rules for authors of the journal are maintained and a model is provided to be used for the submission of manuscripts.

Information on the "Monographic Section" of the next issue, 2024, will be published in the announcements section in the next few days.

Kind regards,

Elos. Revista de Literatura Infantil e Xuvenil Secretariat

The Dissemination of Children's Literature through Instagram Influencers’ Accounts: Factors that influence the Level of Engagement

Published 19-02-2024

The present paper aims at the study of how high impact instagrammers use their accounts to disseminate children’s literature. This paper is also concerned with the responses they get to their different types of posts from their followers through engagement to check their interest in that content. The sample has been taken from 220 publications on 11 non-profit accounts which carry out the dissemination of children’s literature.  A study has been undertaken by which the account characteristics have been identified and its content has been analysed through the adaptation of a data collection instrument which has been previously validated. Data has been collected and analysed with Excel to compare accounts with higher and lower engagement. Among other results, a noteworthy fact is that those accounts with higher engagement present recommended readings along with teaching resources for pre-primary education; the higher the number of followers, the lower engagement becomes. Discussion and conclusions: recommendations are generally limited to bibliographical references and reference to content does not therefore go far enough. Those publications which get higher interaction mainly offer reels, children’s poetry or give support on how to create teaching resources. The procedure can be applied to other samples.

Cultivating the respect for Nature and innovation on non-fiction – new publishing trends on non-fiction books published by Planeta Tangerina

  • Mariana Braga
Published 03-10-2024

This article aims to characterize the main editorial trends in children's non-fiction books on
Environment and Nature published by the Portuguese publishing house Planeta Tangerina.
Following the proliferation of the genre in Portugal, it is intended to analyze the role of textual and
visual media in the construction of knowledge in the books Lá Fora (2014), Um Ano Inteiro (2017),
Plasticus Maritimus (2018) and Apanhar Ar, Apanhar Sol (2022) and how these modalities transmit
information.
In addition to their educational and informative purpose, children's non-fiction books have
become more "sophisticated, multimodal and polysemic" (Grilli, 2020, p.17), which allows multiple
interpretations and creativity in the representation of factual content. Moreover, this aspect
contributes to a better appreciation of their aesthetic and artistic nature.
With this study it is intended to analyze how the selected corpus contributes to the transmission
of knowledge that not only is supported by the verbal content, but also by the visual side, recurring to
trends such as multimodality and hybridity. In addition, we pretend to verify if the similarities present
in the corpus allow us to trace a "publishing trend" in the non-fiction books on the subject published
by Planeta Tangerina.
