Abstract

This article outlines a perspective of the presence of transgender themes in children's literature published in several countries and languages, and seeks to identify, contextualize and analyze a representative set of books for early childhood that explicitly include the theme of transgenderism, or that implicitly work from one of the main outputs of gender identity - clothing - in those we call "the books of dresses." After the first introductory considerations, we proceed with the intersection of transgender themes in general literature with their presence in children's books, briefly tracing an historical evolution and describing their importance for a first didactic movement of transgender. In the analysis of the books, besides distinguishing the explicit or implicit treatment of the theme, we give special attention to the type of marks and metaphors used to convey gender variance and transition, always seeking to consider the quality of proposals and their adequacy to the target audience or the activist goals of the authors.
