Abstract

Poetical and musical compositions are really important in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll, 1865). Their role as social satire and the way in which they have been adapted in different versions of the text determines Alice’s position in popular culture, even inspiring musical compositions non-related to the book. This paper traces the history of the text and explains how poems and songs that have emerged over time have told their part of Alice's story, which has also served as inspiration for musical pieces.
