Disney e os contos de fadas: historia dun secuestro

Abstract

The history of the study of Walt Disney Pictures would not be the same without literary adaptations. Out of the fifty four films considered to be “Disney classics”, forty four stem from a written base that the company versioned. Within this adaptations, fairytales have special importance. As time went by, the firm had four particularly brilliant stages: the end of the 1930s, the 1950s, the last decade of the XXth century and the present moment. All of them started, without exception, with the bringing to the silver screen of a tale starred by those that would become Disney princesses. The success of this films was such that they devoured previous versions –many of them known worldwide- and the stories that survived currently are the ones told by the studio. And how are these versions? Edulcorated, sweetened, simplist, americanized are some of the adjectives that scholars use to define them. Snow White, Pinnoccio, Bambi, Cinderella or The Sleeping Beauty are examples in which we can find these characteristics.
