Abstract

Starting from a previous review that corroborates the presence of the figure of the minstrel in contemporary Cidian recreations and a brief review for the characterization of said medieval profile, this work analyzes the novel Jaque al Rey, by Francisco Rincón Ríos, published in 2012 to bring the adolescent public to the knowledge of the Cantar de mio Cid. The article focuses on the leading character of the minstrel named Don Armillo, with the purpose of unraveling its historical and philological basis. But above all, the aim is examining the role of this character in the literary mediation intended by the novel. The introduction of a minstrel character focuses on three essential aspects to understand the the Cantar de mio Cid in all its complexity: the geographical component of that composition, the scenic potential of its verses and, finally, its symbolic value.
