Abstract

This paper has the central aim of presenting possible relationships between the linguistics and literature fields with regard to picturebooks. The specific objectives, in these terms, are to unravel aspects of the Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse Analysis, as well as of Children’s and Youth Literature and crossover fiction, showing relevant connecting points for the analysis of some books classified primarily as children’s and youth books. To this end, the theoretical foundation will rely mainly on studies by Patrick Charaudeau (2013, 2016, 2018a, 2018b); Sandra Beckett (2009); Ana Margarida Ramos (2014, 2017); Nikolajeva and Scott (2011); Peter Hunt (2010) and Sophie Van der Linden (2011). As corpus, the study includes titles from different countries, published in Brazil in the original language and translated: A parte que falta (Silverstein, 2018a); A parte que falta encontra o grande O (Silverstein, 2018b); Fico à espera (Cali, 2007); Flicts (Ziraldo, 2012); e Meninas (Ziraldo, 2016). It is expected to verify, in the results, that the two great areas have points of intersection that add up, converging for a productive analysis of old and current phenomena in literature for children and young people – or even ageless ones.
