Abstract

The main aim of this article is to examine the Spanish versions of As crónicas do Sochantre, the second novel in Galician by Álvaro Cunqueiro which, unlike other titles, he never translated himself. After reconstructing the process of creation of the work, we analyse the translation made by Francisco Fernández del Riego in the late 1950s, commissioned by Cunqueiro. We then consider the version promoted by the publishing house Ediciones 98 in recent years, in which the writer's son took part. In a complementary manner, the concepts of supposed self-translation, allograph translation with author’s collaboration, authorised translation and retranslation are specifically addressed for these two translations of As crónicas do Sochantre.
