Abstract

The aim of this paper is to provide an approach to the oldest texts in Galician in thecollection of mediaeval parchments of the Monastery of Santa Comba de Naves. Taking into accountthe most recent contributions to this subject, this study focuses on the emergence of written Galician,paying special attention to the relevance of the notaries at law in the development of the new writtenromance language. It, therefore, presents a study of the most relevant features of written Galician inthe five oldest texts of Santa Comba, dated between 1255 and 1279.
