On categorical and morphological status of Spanish medio

Abstract
Due to the difficulties that it presents for conducting morphological analyses, medio has hardly been investigated in detail. In this paper, taking the Spanish dictionaries and grammars, we analyze medio in different corpora, with the aim of, firstly, define its categorical status and its semantic and functional features and, secondly, distinguish from other analogous units as casi, algo or un poco. Finally, we show our proposal based on the idea that medio is a prefix and we demonstrate that this fact is observed from diachronic point of view.
