1. Manuscript submission and processing

Submissions for publications in Verba. Anuario Galego de Filoloxía need to be original manuscripts, i.e. they may neither have been published nor submitted elsewhere. The manuscript will first be evaluated by the Verba editors in order to see if it is of suffient scientific quality and whether it is in line with the overall thematic orientation of the journal. In case the manuscript does not conform to these requirements it will be rejected, which will be communicated to the primary contact indicated as such in the platform.

After acceptance, the manuscript will be stylistically revised in order to adapt it to the style norms applying to each content section of the journal. In case the submitted paper contains restricted copyrighted material, such as figures or images, particularly when they are not from the author’s own work, a copy of the necessary permission(s) must be included with the manuscript.

2. Submission requirements

2.1. Verba accepts manuscripts written in Galician, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Italian, French or English.

2.2. The orginal file in LibreOffice or Microsoft Word document file format, including tables, figures or images, is to be submitted by means of the online editorial platform. Optionally, a PDF version of the manuscript may be included.

2.3. Figures such as graphics, maps or illustrations will also need to be sent separately in any of the following formats: tif, jpg, eps or png, with a minumum quality of 600 dpi. In addition, both separate and integrated materials will have to be numbered consecutively (e.g. Table 1, Figure 2, Graphic 3). In making reference to these materials in the running text, please refrain from capitalizing these words, i.e. just refer to e.g. table 1 and figure 2, except when they appear in sentence initial position. This is illustrated in examples (a) and (b) below:

       a. As shown in table 1, ...

       b. Table 1. The use of the preposition in ALPI

2.4. Mention of funding or acknowledgements are to be presented in separate unnumbered sections, headed by the corresponding title in bold (Funding, Acknowledgements), which precede the bibliographical references. These texts should be short and consist of just one paragraph each.

2.5. Submissions for the section “Articles” may not exceed 130,000 characters (including spaces, footnotes, titles, abstracts, keywords, references and similar). The maximum number of characters for manuscripts intended for publication as “Notes” is 60,000, and book reviews may not consist of more than 20,000 characters.

2.6. Anonymity. All full references to the author have to be eliminated from the running text, using instead: “Author” (year). The bibliographical references should not include the titles of the author’s publications, and the indication “Author” (year) has to be ordered alphabetically between At and Av rather than alphabetizing it according to the author’s name or the title of the publication. In addition, any mention of projects that might betray

the author’s identity must be avoided at this stage. Finally, the author is required to check that her / his name does not appear in the document properties. After acceptance, the author will be asked to deanonymize the manuscript, and to add the omitted references and other data where they belong.

2.7. Authorship. In case of multiple authorship, there must be a responsible author, who will be the contact for the journal. It is the task of the responsible author to warrant the recognition of all co-autors and to make sure that they have read and approved the final version of the manuscript. The names of the authors will be ordered alphabetically according to their family names if their contributions are equal. Otherwise, i.e. in case the authors have contributed in different ways, these should be specified in a note making use of the CRediT conventions (https://casrai.org/credit/).

2.8. The style sheet, which correponds to the ISO 690:2010 norm, albeit with a few minor adaptations, can be downloaded here
