Carolina Michaëlis de Vasconcelos’ name is generally associated, and rightly so, to theedition of the Cancioneiro da Ajuda (Halle, 1904). Even before its publication, however, she tookaccount of the diplomatic editions of the Italian copies (1875 and 1880), which led her to modify herinitial project for the edition of the Lisbon Cancioneiro, and, moreover, to edit and analyze, in variousworks, compositions that were only found in the other two Cancioneiros. Besides, after Monaci’s death, she had an important role in the negotiations between the Portuguese and the Italian governmentsthat resulted in the purchase of the Colocci-Brancuti Codex, and in its being transferred to the LisbonNational Library, whose name it bears today
