Abstract

In 2021, the centennial of the edition of Alén, a play by Xaime Quintanilla, went almost unnoticed, although it was essential in the renewal of the Galician dramatic literature prior to the Second Republic. The play contained an innovative proposal for a scene still rooted in a cultural regionalism deeply dependent on manners and customs, even though plays such as A man de Santiña started the path for a rural realism. In this article written after a review of literature, a comparative perspective that allows us to visit other authors, plays and theatres, and an exegesis of the play based on the tools offered by dramaturgy, as the discipline oriented to the design of theatre shows, we consider the innovations contained in the text and in its implicit staging project.
