Abstract

The purpose of this work is to analyze the representation of the monster and its materialization in contemporary (literary and film) narratives. We will start from the theoretical approaches about the figure of the monster in Western societies, from a philosophical and literary point of view. In the context of the selected works, the mask also plays an important role, whether explicit or metaphorical, as a concealment or a revelation of identity, essential for the intrigue that is created in the suspense narrative.

Consequently, literary and audiovisual creations set and/or produced in Galicia will be analysed. This circumstance will allow addressing, as a working hypothesis, the incidence of the spatial, cultural and ethnographic factor in the configuration of the stories and, consequently, its contribution to the characterization as terror, esoteric, or mythical-magical of the different narrations studied.
