The article is part of a research project that deals with the cultural history of morethan 35 ancient nations, of their respective languages, writing systems and most important literaryworks. Because of the evidence that religious beliefs make up a great part of the specificprofile for each civilization, we have paid attention only to those areas delimited by the confesseddenomination of the cultures studied. Following this scheme, the article starts with thedescription of the philosophical scope of the medieval peoples belonging to the religious worldsof Buddhist-Hinduism and Buddhist-Confucianism: Japan, Tibet, Burma, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Korea. A concise outline of the history of each of the peoples is provided, the origins oftheir languages and writing systems are revealed, and their most important works and philosophicalcontributions are presented. Second, the linguistic and literary achievements of thePersian and Arabic peoples—those belonging to the religious area of Zoroastrianism, Manichaeismand Islam—are described.
