Abstract

In this contribution one defends that it is necessary to avoid to come to the conclusion from that already is quite above mentioned brings over of Jovellanos's educational and pedagogic perspective. In our opinion, it is necessary to reject the repetitive analyses that limit themselves to reproducing of more or less mimetic form what already others have affirmed and, in a special way, this lethal diversion of the hagiography that so small reaches to the knowledge. Likewise it is necessary to avoid the hurried judgment or the intuitions that could not be confirmed by information and arguments. But, between both ends, we incline for a critical, opened methodology, which bears in mind the condition of the question and the advances that in the knowledge of Jovellanos's thought have taken place, but that does not feel limited by the “official truth”.
The point of item is that Jovellanos assembles in his ideological profile the perspectives of conservative and traditionalist, promoter of reforms that they gave solidity the Former Regime and to the time also pioneer of the liberalism ideological that will develop with posteriority in the following centuries.
This work highlights the most innovative aspects in the pedagogic ideology jovellanista that make him deserving of being considered to be one of the theoretical ones of the Spanish illustrated education more advanced, assimilating often beginning and affirmations of other Spanish and foreign authors of the epoch. Of complementary form distinguish themselves those most significant aspects that him were going well together to the pedagogic traditionalism of which, surely, for diverse reasons, it was not still in conditions to become detached.
