Abstract

A very important period for the development of personality and the definition of permanent active living behaviour is the period of growth when physical activity often finds resistances. The aim of this review is to evaluate and take into consideration data collected from 14 scientific studies which related physical activity in children from 3 to 10 years old to health indicators: adiposity (5 studies), motor skill development and ability (9 studies), psychological and social fitness (4 studies), cognitive development (3 studies) and other indicators such as cardiorespiratory fitness (2 studies), asthma and hyperactivity disorder (1 study). In order to have an international overview, works have been selected among 11 different countries: Australia, Bulgaria, Egypt, Finland, Japan, Greece, Portugal, Great Britain, Romania, Serbia and the USA, using three electronic databases: SportDiscus, PubMed and PsycInfo. Evidences have been found that suggested a positive relation between physical activity and health indicators. Those positive effects have been obtained by increasing the intensity or the time spent in physical activities or by comparing test results of the most active children with the less active ones. To sum up, the work identified the importance of active behaviours emphasizing the efficiency of motion games on the evolution of children. The knowledge is useful for spreading the “movement culture” in the development age.
