Abstract

This research is situated at the intersection between lexicography and neology, and chooses, as an application case, the vocabulary of feminism. Thus, it assesses the lexicographical treatment that the lexicon of feminist discourse is receiving in different general dictionaries of Spanish and reflects on the criteria that seem to be most decisive for the inclusion of new words. By evaluating usage criteria such as frequency and antiquity, we establish which words have a greater dictionariness (i.e. a greater value for the dictionary based on social usage) and try to correlate this with their appearance in more or fewer dictionaries. The analysis focuses on a sample of 60 terms from feminist discourse included in feminist glossaries and dictionaries published in the last decade in different generalist or specialised media, and aims to contribute to the debate on ideology in dictionaries.
