Abstract

In the poetry of Antonio Martínez Sarrión ―exponent of the neo-avant-garde generation of the Novísimos― the interactionist theory validity of metaphor is fulfilled. According to this approach devised by Richards, the aforementioned rhetorical figure does not consist in the substitution of one word for another, since relations occur between the two semantic fields. Consequently, due to this interaction, a literal paraphrase could not replace a metaphor without a loss of meaning. Martínez Sarrion marks the relationship between the real and the unreal plane of the metaphor through identifications, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, comparative links and appositions.
