Abstract

The aim of this paper is to provide a didactic and historiographical review about the evolution of two punctuation marks: question mark and exclamation mark. The research is framed in the study of orthography and punctuation in general. In particular, three works about orthography published by the Royal Spanish Academy in 1741, 1844 and 2010 are analyzed. In conclusion, this paper emphasizes that nowadays these punctuation marks are used quite frequently as in their beginning, especially in digital contexts: the open sign is suppressed.
