Abstract
This article gives an account of the journalistic activity of the promoter and visible head of the Spanish radical naturalism, Eduardo López Bago, in Uruguay, between 1888 and 1890, in both El Censorand La Opinión Públicanewspapers, in which he devoted himself to the literary criticism of Uruguayan authors from a naturalistic background. The cultivation of a sarcastic and harsh style caused him considerable polemics; however, he did not shy away from confrontation. Furthermore, he resorted to plagiarism to make many of his articles, a common practice in his literary and journalistic work which went unnoticed at the time.
