Abstract

The place occupied by eponymy in deonomastics has been studied, and it has been confirmed that the degree of productivity of the selected eponyms is lower than that presented in the following false eponyms: María, Juan, Perico and Catalina, which were created after the acknowledgment of similarities in a group of homonyms. It has been possible to verify that very frequent names have experienced a wide development of meanings, greater than that attained by words referring to mythological characters. Many of the false eponyms refer to figures from proverbs, perform referential and interdiction functions in the colloquial register and have produced more internal creations than the nouns of cultured transmission.
