The article studies José Gómez de Arteche’s novel Un soldado español de veinte siglos, analysing its narrative structure, the presence of the myth of the Wandering Jew in the story, how the author enriches the characterization of the protagonist by using traits of the monster as a symbolic construction and the influence of the author’s own ideas in the speech of the characters. All these reflections allow us to conclude that this is a novel in which historiography and fantasy literature are joined in the filter of the author’s own personality.
