Abstract

The modernization of the Cuban economic model has affected all areas of life in this country. For this reason, a new policy was developed to widen the open discussion of this topic in the news. With this objective, a new space which is committed to telling the truth about what is happening in Cuban society has formally been created; it is called the Cuba says section of the National Television News. In this article the correspondence between multimodality and the discourse used to report news is studied from the point of view of the Complexity Theory. The analysis shows that even though Cuba says is a new proposal from a formal and rhetorical point of view, this formal renovation is far from being progressive, and in fact, provides a very efficient way to hide discourse of dominance and manipulation.
