Abstract
According to the explicit, the Chronicle of Santa Maria de Iria was written by Rui Vasques, priest from Santiago de Compostela, between April 23rd, 1467, and March 29th, 1468. The fact that the content of the Chronicle was subject to fraudulent exploitation by different authors between the 17th and the 18th centuries made some scholars, in modern times, question that chronology and, consequently, its real authorship by Rui Vasques. However, a careful analysis of postmedieval reproductions strengthens the authenticity of the temporal circumstances declared by Rui Vasques and makes it evident that the one guarded in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is the original autograph manuscript.
