Abstract

We analyze in this article the donation of relics made by cardinal Mendoza (1428-1495) to the Santa Cruz de Toledo hospital, through an unpublished document preserved in the Provincial Historical Archive of Toledo. We delve into the value that the sacred vestiges reached as gifts within the social practices of the time, becoming presents that, being bearers of the sacred, gave prestige to both the donor and the recipient and contributed to the construction of the image of power.
