Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze the headlines of the Spanish newspaper El País, through the interdisciplinary approach of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). In this sense, the text is developed from some theoretical assumptions made by the Dutchman, Teun van Dijk. The discourse produced by this mass media newspaper in the context of the peace talks between the Colombian government and the FARC proves of great interest in the identification of the treatment that the media give to this process and also in the observation of how discourse intervenes in the process of projection and enunciation of a global phenomenon whose main actor is Colombia. Thus, this study will be carried out through the analysis of the macrostructure of the discourse, specifically on a semantic level, and in which, global coherence and local coherence will be studied with the microstructures of meaning.
