Abstract

Pedagogy is a very clear vocation in both the professional and personal life of Emilia Pardo Bazán; this vocation is revealed in the writings and lectures from her professorship as well as by her engaging in practical initiatives to improve education, especially for women in Spain. Mrs. Pardo Bazán’s pedagogical vocation is based on her knowledge of the classical educators such as Luis Vives, Erasmo, Montaigne and Rabelais, and also the modern ones for example Kant, Froebel, Pestalozzi or Krausists. However, all these sources are difficult to apply, in the desolate landscape of Spanish education in her time, as she herself condemns. From public education to the most innovative private initiatives, the collaboration of this Galician writer was continued in the essential task of the role of education as a way for the regeneration of her country.
