Camões’ ode “A quem darão de Pindo as moradoras”, according to the text determined by Azevedo Filho, is analysed as a poem of praise, framed in the European tradition derived from Pindar’s epinicia, imitated by Horace in his odes of public character. Its intertextual connections with probable models and with other contemporary manifestations are considered as a previous stage to its study as a metapoetic and encomiastic speech, in which poet and addressee assume their respective roles as laudator and laudandus. All of this has repercussions on the structure, the style and the ode’s last goal: to proclaim that he will achieve poetic immortality with the protection of Dom Manuel de Portugal
