This study focuses on texts from the Cuban hero José Martí, as a qualified informant fora variety of Spanish that was nourished from different American experiences. We specifically analyzethe occurrences of the vos / vosotros in his prose work. The two forms of address are related to thetextual types in which they appear, their intentions, and other variables so as to arrive at conclusionsabout the models of reference and the points of contact detected in relation to what has already beencommented for other areas of America in similar studies, as well as about the fields that open to theunraveling of Martí’s linguistic and ideological postulates.
