In this new study on the first monument to Spanish Lexicography one synthesizesthe characteristics of the fundamental structures: the article (bilingual), the entry, and the definition(Castilian). But the precise goal of the study is to emphasize in its different aspects, thetypology of the Castilian components (when they are not restricted to the entry). At times it isquite difficult to set a boundary between definition and entry, due to the elliptic brevity of theexpression and to the presence of plurimember entries (synonyms of the same level) or pluriverbal(complex sequences, which are at times phraseological). In some cases the Castilian partis converted into a mere definition of the Latin equivalent, which shows the hybrid character ofthis work and the existence of two sub-dictionaries, a Vocabulario castellano-latino (archtypeof the future Spanish monolingual catalogues) and a Vocabulario hispano-latino (proof of bothtraditional biculturalism and the didactic function of the text).
