Un estudio comparado de los poemas funerales de Baltasar del Alcázar y Francisco de Quevedo

Abstract

Chevalier (1992: 118-9), Plata (1997: 242-3), Núñez Rivera (2001: 11-110) and Cacho Casal (2003: 63) are the researchers who have demonstrated the nearly literal coincidence of some of the expressions in Quevedo’s poetry with the poetry written by Baltasar del Alcázar; this feature illustrates the proximity that exists in certain cases between both poets, which might go beyond the use of a shared tradition and have more to do with Quevedo’s more or less direct knowledge about the poetry by the Andalusian. This paper studies the associations between Alcázar’s compositions which begin with “A la muerte cruel, acerba y dura”, “Detén, famoso Betis, la corriente”, and “Hiere la hermosa Elvira” in the funeral verses by Quevedo. In addition, this analysis demonstrates the need to revise current knowledge of Spanish funeral poetry.
