Abstract

The information age paradoxically comes together with alarming levels of disinformation at a global scale. The phenomenon of disinformation is incessant and far-reaching, affecting not only all areas of social life but also the functioning of democratic systems. This is because the existing answers for fighting against disinformation tend to limit essential freedoms to our democratic systems - freedom of expression and information - thus posing serious challenges for their treatment. The aim of this article is to place the conflict in the current context, reviewing some of the responses that have been proposed to combat the enormous amount of misleading information circulating around the world and highlighting the risks that these techniques entail.
