Animal welfare in livestock farms: legal aspects regarding administrative intervention

Abstract
The concern about Animal Welfare has evolved in today’s society in such a clear way that it is considered today one of the pillars of European livestock along with health, sustainability and food safety. Although there is a legal and moral obligation to encourage good treatment of animals by considering them beings that feel and suffer, specific and media situations exceptionally arise which present a difficult solution because they lack a clear legal reserve and specific procedures for action which limit the effectiveness of the action in these cases. This article analyzes the most common special assumptions in relation to animal welfare which present difficulties of administrative intervention from a legal perspective in livestock farms.
