Duración del Período Gestacional en la Raza Rubia Gallega

Abstract

Gestation length in the bovine breed Rubia Gallega was studied, in herds of the province of Lugo under traditional management systems. Different factors known to influence pregnancy length in cattle were also evaluated.

Pregnancy length in Rubia Gallega cows was 291.41 days, which indicated a remarkable increase of this parameter occurring during the last years, probably due to the genetic selection pressure on this breed. Cow age, fetal genotype, fetal sex and calving season had an influence on the pregnancy length of this breed.
