The “visual guerrilla” of the Guarani people

Abstract
The objective of this work is to carry out an anthropological analysis about the appropriation of cinema and new information and communication technologies by the Guarani people (NTIC) from the perspective of the indigenous filmmakers themselves (self-nomination of indigenous youth that produce movies and media content). And at the same time find out what is the purpose of the use of these media by this population. This research is based on the ethnography developed at the indigenous lands Guyraroká, Panambizinho and Te'Yikue in Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) in the years 2010 and 2011. The results indicate that the appropriation of the cinema and the NTIC by the indigenous filmmakers integrates a project of resistance based on the abandonment of colonial and ethnocentric values, on the reflection and updating of their own culture, on the recovery of their cultural practices and on the affirmation of their ethnic identity.
