Abstract

The subject of this paper is the urban study of alcaicerías, important commercial areas in sixteenth-century Seville, a moment of maximum economic and cultural splendor. An architectural and typological analysis based on historical documents has been developed. In addition, hypothetical plans of the areas and the buildings at some of the most important trading sites such as Las Gradas and the alcaicerías of Santa María la Mayor and San Salvador have been made. This analysis includes surfaces, purposes, heights and density of the buildings.
