Abstract

This article presents an approach to the altarpiece that existed inside the Holy Sacrament Chapel in the Cathedral of Mallorca during the Early Modern period. The presence of this piece in the St. Peter’s Chapel has to be directly related to the great relevance that the reserve of the Blessed Sacrament gained as a consequence of the celebration of the Council of Trent. By consulting unpublished documentation in archives, it has been possible to establish and specify some milestones related to the execution of an altarpiece dedicated to Saint Peter during the 16th and 17th centuries. In addition to the distinction of two phases of execution, it has been possible to provide a probable hypothesis about its authorship.
