Abstract

This article focuses on a single question, the issue of whether new temporary spaces for large liturgical gatheringsrespond to a typological development of the space for worship or, conversely, to the loss of the identity ofsacred architecture.Taking as our basis the assumption that the development of architecture is truly meaningful when it responds toprogrammatic factors, we analyse outdoor worship spaces, introducing the paradigms of centrifugal space andcentripetal space, and look at the relationship between liturgy and nature understood as a landscape, beforeconcluding by upholding liturgical symbolism as a means of controlling new formalisations of sacred space.
