Abstract

The analysis of social networks and the study of the extreme right are currently topics widely addressed by the literature in Political Science. For this reason, this study focuses on Italy and the use of Twitter by far-right leaders and their political parties during the 2022 electoral campaign. The objectives are to understand the media development of their official accounts, reflect on how they use Twitter and on whether the female candidate makes a differentiated use regarding her male counterparts. We will carry out a comparative analysis using specialized software in the analysis of social networks that will lead us to the following conclusions: the activity of Twitter accounts to generate engagement in their recipients is essential, political parties generate greater engagement than their leaders, except for Forza Italia; and, Meloni and Fratelli d'Italia are the most attractive accounts for users.
