Abstract

Concepción Arenal is a multifaceted figure: journalist, philosopher, educator, criminal lawyer, poet and activist for civil and social rights, she is characterized by a resolute political and ideological independence. Her educational and reformist approach aimed at the most vulnerable categories - the child, the destitute, the prisoner, the woman - is animated by a vision in which the social question is always understood as a moral and even religious question. This is why, in his writings and in his action, the ideals of justice are always accompanied by the rejection of all forms of violence, by the need to promote economic improvement along with moral elevation, and by the requirement to humanize all forms of assistance with the warmth of charity.
