Resumo

Para el peregrino medieval la meta es lo más importante del viaje y, de ese modo, se establecen los itinerarios cristianos durante toda la Edad Media. Sin embargo, los monjes peregrinos irlandeses que encontramos en las Vitae Sanctorum Hiberniae frecuentan otros lugares en peregrinación creando lo que consideramos conceptos diferentes, propios y característicos de un pueblo en el que el mar ocupa casi todo el pensamiento insular. Se mueven por impulsos religiosos (peregrinatio pro Christo), pero, además, realizan la peregrinación como parte de una aventura de fe en la que quieren dejar constancia de espacios concretos (viajes por mar o al Más Allá) en los que, incluso, el pecado constituye un motivo para viajar y ser perdonados.
