GIS and database management: an application in the archaeological research of the vernacular architecture in western Asturias
Main Article Content
Abstract
From the experience of our Phd investigation, focused on the archaeological study of the vernacular architecture of the western Asturian region, we try to show the possibilities that the GIS and the database management software offer, applied to the cultural heritage research. The high number of constructions preserved in the study area and the high volume of data, made necessary the design of a computer tool that was allowing us to manage this information with accuracy. We develop a model of GIS and a Database Management System, using commercial software in a local computer. The result has been the development of a low cost tool for the cultural heritage management, which has allowed us to prepare the inventory and recording the heritage assets preserved in the municipality of Pezós; the storage, organization and management of the information proceeding from diverse sources, and the achievement of diverse spatial analyses.
