Abstract

This paper proposes a critical reflection on the marine landscapes (seascapes) of Galicia. Despite their relevance, there is a paucity of research through the approach that has been used in this text, which privileges the immaterial cultural dimension inherent to the notion of landscape. The manuscript begins by a quote through which the landscape approach on marine spaces is theoretically discussed. The central sections of the article demonstrate the appropriateness of considering the Galician sea as a landscape by analysing a collection of places of interest, departing from the Cove of San Simón and ending at the Ria of Ribadeo. The investigation is based on literary fiction, supplemented with landscape images of another kind (photography, tourism promotional posters, etc.). The concluding section insists on the paper’s implications in terms of spatial planning andmanagement, especially in relation to the Coastal Spatial Plan passed in 2011.
