Abstract

This article aims to briefly reconstruct the history of Spanish literary exile in Mexico, which took place from 1939 following the Spanish civil war. Mantaining collective identity and at the same time adapting to the host country determined the type of this exile. The encounter brought about this pilgrimage from Spain to Mexico became an unprecedented moment in history and marked, in many ways, both countries. The results of the approach were positive both for the refugees, who found a place to live and develope, and the country that received them, since the quantity and quality of work of the Spanish Republicans contributed, invaluably to the modernization of Mexico. We also wanted to record significant Galician presence among the Mexican expatriate Spanish intellectuals.
