Abstract

With the May Revolution, Buenos Aires society –the location of the viceregal capital and its respective authorities–, undergoes a process of change. This paper pays particular attention to the special shape of the political scene from the Town Meeting, and its sitting on 22 May 1810 onwards. The fundamental problem about how to project a new power structure became the landmark of the subsequent days and the linchpin of historiographical discourse, which arose from different trends questioning the matter. This study will focus on the role –both social and political– of the Galitians present in a revolutionary Buenos Aires freeing itself form its viceroyalty.
