Abstract

The death of Philip IV in 1665 led to the erection of monumental catafalques in the most important cities in the empire. The purpose of this study is to show the cultural unity that inspired the construction of those memorials in the Spanish Habsburg possessions in Italy and America through the analysis of the monuments erected in Milan, Naples, Palermo, Mexico and Lima.
