After the arrival of the Spanish culture in America, the ceremony of triumphal entry and its principal artistic demonstration; ephemeral arches, were also adopted. During three centuries, viceroys enjoyed major celebrations which saw the erection of baroque depicting arches sharing mythology, allegory, emblematic and Roman history. However, after Independence, this ceremony will live new moments of success in Mexico, with arches dedicated to emperors, presidents, liberators, dictators and even the railway. Its evolution takes us from the use of classical allegory to the inspiration in the prehispanic cultures.
