Resumo

O objetivo desta investigação é revisar e unificar a literatura empírica que identifica os fatores determinantes para o crescimento das empresas. Uma lista de 165 trabalhos constitui a espinha dorsal da presente revisão da literatura empírica sobre o crescimento das empresas. Com base nesta revisão, facultámos uma síntese de vários fatores determinantes para o crescimento das empresas. Especificamente, enumeramos e detalhamos os fatores determinantes para o crescimento das empresas em três blocos: características idiossincráticas do empresário, fatores internos da empresa e fatores externos à empresa. O trabalho proporciona uma melhor compreensão do complexo processo de crescimento das empresas, expõe as deficiências presentes na investigação empírica sobre o crescimento das empresas e exibe orientações para futuras investigações.
